Named after a very special elephant bull, Abu Camp nestles in hardwood forest at the fringe of a large lagoon. The campsite is surrounded by open grasslands and waterways fringed with papyrus – a stay at this unique property ultimately means entering into the natural world of a resident elephant herd.
There are only 6 ensuite guest tents at Abu Camp, all distinct in decoration but equal in luxury. Expect glamorous accents everywhere, from outdoor showers or copper bathtubs to personal plunge pools embedded in teak decks. The central areas are just as stylish, with a library, dining room, lounge area, gym and shared pool.
Activities at Abu Camp are divided between interactions with the semi-habituated local elephant herd and the completely wild animals which inhabit the terrain surrounding this amazing camp. Get to know individual members of the herd, go on morning and afternoon game drives in search of species such as leopard and hyena, and take a mokoro excursion along a tranquil channel.
Other great things to do include a walk in the bush with an experienced guide, bird-watching, scenic flights and a ‘Star Bed’ experience – a life-changing night spent sleeping out under the stars, with the low rumblings of elephants as a backing track.
