Adventure awaits in this untamed corner of Botswana, a breathtaking place of raw, remote, untouched wilderness.
The name Mokete means celebration or feast and this remote safari camp celebrates the unexplored and the untamed. Once a hunting ground, now reclaimed by nature, Wilderness Mokete stands alone, the only camp offering safari experiences in these raw, wild lands. This is Botswana off the map, where dusty roads, starlit silence, and wild moments are unfettered by fixed itineraries.
Located in a remote corner of the legendary Mababe Depression, Makete is surrounded by immense grasslands fed by permanent water which attracts many thousands of animals. Massive herds of buffalo roam this savanna, pursued by large prides of lions. Herds of antelope like tsessebe and wildebeest, as well as zebra, giraffe and ostrich can be encountered depending on the season, along with a wide range of predators like spotted hyena, leopard, wild dog and jackal. The wide, open plains are perfect habitat for cheetah, and the Mababe serves as a critical movement corridor for northern Botswana’s enormous elephant population.
Offering remote, eco-conscious luxury, Mokete accommodates just 18 guests in nine wood-and-canvas chalets which are light and airy and situated on raised decks above the surrounding bush. Built with natural materials like wood and canvas, each chalet also has large mesh windows which allow for cooling breezes and open views. Each suite has an inverter air conditioner, and the canvas roof above the bed is cantilevered and can slide away for views of endless starry skies. Neutral tones, draped fabrics and soft furnishings add to the feeling of lightness. Each suite has a furnished lounge area, a writing desk, universal plug points, ensuite bathroom and an outdoor deck with private plunge pool.
Raised boardwalks connect the guest chalets to the main area which houses a comfortable sitting room, indoor dining area, open plan bar, fire pit and a wide deck with views over the plains. The camp also has a pool with sunlounges, and a sunken hide for close up game viewing. Makete is on 100% solar for electricity and hot water.
Guided activities include game drives in open 4WD vehicles, guided walks, night drives, picnic lunches out on the plains so you don’t miss any of the action, and helicopter flights (at extra cost).
