explora Patagonia

explora Patagonia is a spectacular luxury lodge with an equally impressive location inside Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park.

With an unbeatable location inside the jaw-dropping Torres del Paine National Park, explora Patagonia has turquoise Lake Pehoe and the pristine Paine River at its doorstep, with dense lenga forests and snow-capped massifs as a backdrop. Guests at this all-inclusive property may choose from some 40 explorations, including horseback riding and hiking some of the best known trekking circuits on Earth or lesser-known trails through ‘the end of the world’. The lodge even has its own catamaran for cruises across the lake.

At the end of a big day of activity, dive into the heated indoor pool, sit in the open-air Jacuzzi, relax in the sauna or have a therapist soothe your muscles at the wellness spa. Meals are carefully designed to be fortifying, yet fresh and healthy. Dishes are always accompanied by a choice of quality Chilean wines, or you can try a signature cocktail at the bar. From September to April, if the weather permits, you may also be able to share a mate with the gauchos down at the stables, with succulent spit-roasted lamb for dinner.

The 49 rooms at explora Patagonia feature huge windows but no televisions or Wi-Fi so as not to detract from glorious nature outside. These are however, available in the hotel’s common areas. Cosy and furnished with premium bedding, each bedroom is a sanctuary that ensures deep rest after hours spent outdoors.

Patagonia Tours Overview

Why Patagonia: Located in Argentina and Chile, Patagonia is a natural wonderland of dramatic mountains, giant glaciers, cascading waterfalls, secluded lakes and beech forests. It is also an area rich in wildlife including seals, humpback whales, pumas, condors and guanacos.

When to Go: Summer (Nov – Mar) is the best time to visit Patagonia when the weather is at its mildest and daylight hours are at their longest (18 hours). Bear in mind however, that this is also the windiest and busiest time of year. Winter provides clearer views, stiller conditions and fewer tourists; however temperatures can be extremely cold. Torres del Paine National Park is open all year round.

Combine With: Combine Patagonia with a more in-depth trip through the rest of Chile or Argentina. Alternatively, visit neighbouring Brazil or head further north into Bolivia or Peru.

Getting There: From Santiago, there are short flights to Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt, Balmaceda or Temuco, whilst from Buenos Aires you can fly into El Calafate or Ushuaia in the south or San Carlos de Bariloche in the north.
