Baby Gorilla in Uganda

Embark on this escorted safari to one of the world’s most beautiful wild places in search of mountain gorillas and other primates.

Join James Cameron on this 15 Day Safari to Uganda, dubbed “The Pearl of Africa” by Winston Churchill because of its incredible natural beauty and diverse landscapes. The country is famous as the source of the Nile, as well as wildlife parks like Queen Elizabeth National Park and the unique Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to 460 mountain gorillas.

Starting in Entebbe, this wildlife extravaganza includes gorilla trekking, 4WD safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park, the stunning Murchison Falls where the river Nile squeezes through a 6-metre gap, and a cruise on the Kazinga Channel famous for hippos and crocodiles. The final scenic wonder is Wildwaters Lodge on an island in the middle of the mighty Nile River.

Itinerary

Uganda’s gorillas & chimps safari

Ex Entebbe, Uganada
15 days/14 nights

Days 1  |  1 Jun

Entebbe

Meet and Greet at Entebbe International airport terminal and transfer to No.5 Boutique Hotel in the leafy suburbs of Entebbe.

Days 2-4  |  2-4 Jun

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP

Transfer to Entebbe Airport for the flight to Kihihi. On arrival we will be met by our dedicated local safari guide. Transport on tour is by custom-built 4×4 safari vehicles with large windows (every guest has a window seat), cooler box, and charging points. Our next 3 nights are spent at Buhoma Lodge with its cosy lounge, bar and fireplace and 10 guest chalets with private bathrooms. Whilst at Buhoma we will enjoy a trek on each full day with experienced local guides and trackers through misty rainforests in search of the rare mountain gorilla – an unforgettable experience. BLD

Days 5-7  |  5-7 Jun

Queen Elizabeth NP

Today we drive to Queen Elizabeth NP, visiting a community village enroute for a cultural experience. The national park is Uganda’s most famous, with magnificent vistas of the jagged Rwenzori Mountains, the Kazinga Channel with its banks lined with hippos, buffalo and elephants, and the endless Ishasha plains, where lions lie ready to pounce on herds of unsuspecting Uganda kob. Here we stay at Ishasha Wilderness Camp in 10 furnished canvas rooms, with en-suite bathroom with hot water “bush” showers and ecofriendly flush toilet. The central lounge/dining area under cool thatch is perfect for meals and relaxing during the day. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. BLD

Days 8/9  |  8/9 Jun

Kibale Region

We depart early for chimp trekking at Kyamburu Gorge followed by a leisurely private cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a haven for birds, hippo, crocodile and animals like elephants and antelope. We arrive at Chimpundu Lodge, a tranquil, forest retreat with 14 luxury cottages with ensuite outdoor bathrooms and 180-degree private patio. Next day we go in search of chimpanzees in Kibale NP which is home to 70 mammal species, including 13 species of primate and over 375 species of birds.  Chimpanzees move quickly, so tracking them through the forest isn’t easy, but we have a good chance of seeing them.  BLD

Days 10-12  |  10-12 Jun

Paraa Safari Lodge, Murchison Falls

Today we drive to our lodge in the Murchison Falls National Park. Here the Victoria Nile plunges 45 metres over the rift valley escarpment, creating the dramatic Murchison Falls and one of the world’s most powerful flows of natural water. The river attracts huge numbers of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles and aquatic birds. Paraa Safari Lodge offers comfortable rooms with private bathroom and balcony, and during our stay we will enjoy game drives, the “Top of the Falls” Walk, the Murchison Falls Delta Cruise and the Murchison Falls Bottom of the Falls Cruise. Days 13/14  |  13/14 Jun

Jinja & Wildwaters Lodge

We depart early for Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to 15 southern white rhinos and species such as Uganda kob, reed buck, oribi, hippos, crocodiles and 300 bird species! We continue to unique Wildwaters Lodge on a private island midstream in the mighty Nile. The ten suites with ensuite bathrooms offer views of the Nile and the dense riverine forest. Elevated wooden walkways link the rooms to the restaurant/bar area and through the heart of the forest. Relax in the swimming pool or enjoy optional activities like heart-pounding white-water rafting, bungee jumping, quad biking, river surfing, mountain biking, horse riding or fishing. Look out for giant otters and monitor lizards in the rapids that surround the lodge.  BLD

James Cameron – Destination Specialist
Growing up with tour operators as parents, James spent many family holidays visiting unique destinations worldwide, which instilled in him a passion for travel, culture and wildlife. His first safari was in 2002 to Kenya and Tanzania, and a long-lasting highlight of that trip was camping in the endless plains of the Serengeti, listening to the roar of lions at night. Since then, he has returned many times to the continent, and has spent time volunteering in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, explored Botswana’s game-rich wildlife areas, journeyed onboard Rovos Rail from Durban to Pretoria, wandered the fascinating cities of Morocco, and discovered the wonders of ancient Egypt. James has also visited Antarctica twice, most recently in February 2023. A highlight of that trip was kayaking within a few metres of humpback whales on multiple occasions. James escorted our inaugural Classic Botswana & Zimbabwe group tours in 2024, and will be leading a tour of Namibia in 2026.
