Western Australia’s answer to the Great Barrier Reef, Ningaloo Reef has one clear advantage – it is accessible from the shoreline. The reef is just 100 metres offshore at its closest point and from April to July, whale sharks (the world’s largest fish) congregate on the reef offering spectacular viewing opportunities. Exmouth is the gateway to the reef as well as neighbouring Cape Range National Park. Discover the limestone landscape and search for iconic Australian species including echidna and kangaroos.
At the top of the state in the countries remote north is the vast, arid Kimberley. The dramatic ochre-coloured landscape is filled with rugged gorges and thunderous waterfalls. One of the best ways to explore this remote region is by cruise ship.
