Nestled deep within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is one of the most atmospheric in Uganda.
Its remote location means that Mountain Gorillas occasionally visit, and the property is a perfect base for tracking these endangered gentle giants. It’s also possible to interact with local Batwa Pygmy communities who inhabit this spectacular region of volcanoes, densely forested mountains and waterfalls.
Guests at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp are accommodated in 8 tented suites featuring thatched roofs and furnished timber verandas. Each one contains two comfortable beds and a large bathtub ideal for soaking sore muscles after a long day outdoors. The main lodge contains a dining, lounge and bar area, with a mini-spa for relaxing treatments.
Aside from trekking into the rainforest in search of Mountain Gorilla troops, guests at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp can enjoy some of Uganda’s finest bird-watching, nature walks through wilderness inhabited by unusual forest-dwelling species and cultural excursions visiting nearby villages. If you’re staying awhile, it’s also possible to visit the nearby Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions and elephants.
