On the banks of the Groot Marico River in the heart of the exclusive Madikwe Game Reserve, Madikwe River Lodge is an ideal safari destination as well as the perfect venue for a special occasion such as a birthday or wedding. Conveniently close to Johannesburg, Madikwe is South Africa’s fourth-largest game reserve and it is also considered malaria-free, making it a great choice for travellers seeking a hassle-free holiday.
Accommodation at Madikwe River Lodge is in 16 secluded, split-level chalets set in lush riverine forest, with private decks overlooking the river. All feature African-inspired decor, and six of the units can be converted into family suites with cots available on request. Meals are enjoyed at the central main lodge or in the lodge’s evocative outdoor “boma”, located on an island in the river. There is also a small outdoor swimming pool here, ideal for warm afternoons.
Activities at Madikwe River Lodge include game drives, guided walks and bird-watching. All excursions are led by highly qualified rangers. All of the “Big 5” are present in the Madikwe Game Reserve and there are also a range of rare species including African wild dog and cheetah.

How to get to Madikwe River Lodge
Guests can transfer to Madikwe River Lodge from Johannesburg (around 4 hours) or reach the reserve by air, flying directly to Madikwe’s private airstrip (approximately 50 minutes’ flight duration from Johannesburg).
