The perfect haven for before or after an exciting safari
Situated on one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations, the aptly named Arusha Coffee Lodge lies on the outskirts of Arusha in the rolling foothills of Mount Meru.
The vibrant town of Arusha is the start or end point of many Tanzanian (or East African) safaris. Hidden amongst the endless grounds of the coffee plantation, the lodge is the perfect haven for relaxing before or after an exciting safari. The lodge itself is designed around the original plantation owners’ home – dating back to the early 1900’s – giving it a homely and relaxing feel. The continuing theme throughout the lodge is coffee; reflected in the colouring and décor of the lodge and its comfortable rooms and suites.
Within the lodge are lovely communal areas including a café and bistro, separate ‘a la carte’ restaurant and a spacious and comfortable lounge room with an open log fireplace perfect for a cool winter’s night. Dining options are aplenty at Arusha Coffee Lodge. Skilful chefs create delightful dishes using fresh produce, while guests can dine in several different locations. The Grill Room offers a menu that pays homage to international gourmet and culinary techniques whilst guests can also enjoy a daily 4-course buffet luncheon in the garden. The Bistro, open all day and night, has a variety of exciting options – including homemade pizzas from the onsite pizza oven. Guests can also enjoy the onsite facilities, that include an enclosed swimming pool, a beautiful garden terrace as well as acres of lush plantations to explore.
The guest rooms
Situated within the gardens are a combination of 30 Plantation rooms and suites, that offers guests cosy and comfortable interiors. The rooms and suites both offer spacious lounge areas and four-poster beds, outdoor verandas as well as ensuite bathrooms with both showers and bathtubs. Room and suites are tastefully decorated and offer amenities including bathrobes and slippers, in-room safes and tea and coffee making facilities.
The plantation
Guests of the lodge can take a guided tour around the plantation, to see how coffee is grown, harvested and produced. Other possible activities include a dame drive in Arusha National Park, a tour of the Shanga community project – dedicated to supporting and empowering community members with a disability – a visit to the Kahawa Coffee Shop or the Tanzanite Experience, specialising in ethically-mined Tanzanite gemstones. If guests are after some “R&R” after an exciting safari, onsite ‘Peaberries’ day spa has several treatments available, including massages, pedicures and manicures.
