Gibb’s Farm is located in Karatu, a lush area of flower farms and coffee plantations in the rolling hills that surround the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
A former colonial homestead, the property comprises of a central farmhouse and 17 charming guest cottages, each unique in decoration but all fitted with hardwood flooring, fireplaces and private verandas. There is also a two-bedroom family cottage available.
The main farmhouse contains a lovely living room, two airy dining rooms and plenty of cosy corners to curl up with a cup of tea. Up here, you’ll also find reception plus a little boutique with a selection of East African books, artworks and organic Gibb’s Farm Arabica coffee for sale. The hearty, healthy meals at Gibbs’ Farm also contain plenty of homegrown ingredients, from fresh milk and cream to fruit and vegetables.
Guests are invited to wander the picturesque grounds of the property to experience a real working farm at the edge of a primeval forest. Learn to milk a cow, pick berries or trek out to waterfalls and “caves” made by elephants seeking vitamins in the soil. You can even stroll over to a neighbouring village to gain some insight into traditional Tanzanian rural life. As the property is close to the Ngorongoro Crater, a full day excursion on foot will take you to the crater rim. To conclude a long day outdoors, indulge in a massage in the privacy of your own cottage.

Gibb’s Farm is located in Karatu, 45 minutes by road from Kilimanjaro International Airport or 1.5 hours from Arusha. The closest airstrip to the homestead is Manyara, which is an hour away and receives daytime flights only.
