Transfer by 4WD to the starting point of your 7-8 hour walk through Spicers Private Reserve. Slowly ascend the scenic rim and learn about the ecology of the area – sightings of the endangered brush tailed rock wallaby are a possibility. The hike is undulating with some very steep sections that may require rock scrambling. The ascent to the top of the Mount Mistake Range is 600 metres however it is well worth the hard work with super views from the top. A highlight of today is the “rock ladder”. Guides will provide you with a harness and helmet as they lead you across the “ladder”. This exciting experience is optional, and guests can choose to take an alternative route around this section. Morning tea and lunch are enjoyed on the trail. Enjoy the panoramic views from the ridgeline before descending through beautiful forest and farmland to your accommodation. BLD

Today’s walk is approximately 8 hours with a few short steep hills, following an old logging trail that crosses into the Main Range National Park. Learn about the history of the area as well as the flora and fauna of the rainforest – in 1994 most of the area was declared a World Heritage Area. You will also see evidence of the 2019 bushfires and have your first Gondwana Rainforest encounter. The final hour of the walk is the most challenging, along a private unformed track through the rainforest. Spend the evening in the treehouse-like cabins set above the forest floor. BLD

Day 6

Timber Getters Eco Cabins

(Walking distance approx. 16 kilometre)
Today’s walk is approximately 8 hours and will lead through a number of different ecosystems deep within the national park. The first part of the walk is relatively flat (but can get a little muddy) as you travel along the access road listening to the sounds of the rainforest. There are plenty of exciting Grade 5 sections on today’s walk along beautiful, unmarked trails, including a few rocky boulders, tree roots and rocky creek crossings to navigate. During the day, enjoy a relaxing morning tea and lunch on the trail. There will be drinks and a grazing platter for guests to savour on arrival in camp. As you journey through the national park, keep an eye out for Albert’s lyrebird and the vulnerable black-breasted button-quail. BLD

Day 7

Hidden Peaks Cabin

(Walking distance approx. 16 kilometre)
Depart on your final days walk along a fire trail that leads uphill past an old pine plantation. The trail then heads deep into the rainforest where you will come across some huge trees with buttresses 6 feet tall. The path emerges from the rainforest and once more climbs uphill to bare rock offering sensational views. The trail then joins a public footpath where you will slowly head back towards civilisation. There will be vehicles at the end of the trail ready to transfer you back to Hidden Peaks Cabin where you can relax, enjoy a final dinner and toast your Scenic Rim walk. BLD
