Mandira Bungalow

The Mandira Bungalows in Hatton offer incredible luxury and time-worn traditions amid the temperate central highlands of Sri Lanka.

Once the prestigious abodes of colonial rulers, the Mandira Bungalows offer incredible luxury and time-worn traditions amid the verdant tea plantations that characterise the temperate central highlands of Sri Lanka. Set at 1,300m above sea level, the region offers perfect weather for relaxed cycling, exhilarating mountain biking and trekking.

Retire each night to a comfortable ensuite bedroom in one of 3 quaint bungalows, whose decor will transport you back to another, more elegant era. Overstuffed armchairs, four-poster beds and antique pieces of hardwood furniture are just some of the things you can expect. All bedrooms have access to a shared lounge and dining area, with views over the Mandira Bungalows’ gardens or evergreen tea bushes, planted in neat rows across the hillside.

Aside from exploring on foot or by bicycle, other things to do from Mandira Bungalows include a ride on a vintage train to a nearby location such as Ella or Kandy, or picking world-famous Ceylon tea leaves the traditional way, with a basket on your back. It’s also possible to play golf at a club founded in 1889 and bungalow-hop, learning about old British planters’ lives from a resident naturalist as you walk from one heritage residence to another.
