The atmosphere of calm pervades the entire resort, which comprises of 27 contemporary suites scattered across a hillside, which slopes gently down to meet the sultry Indian Ocean. Featuring floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, each suite has its own plunge pool and shaded courtyard, where private massages and wellness therapies can be arranged.  

At Amanwella’s Restaurant and Beach Club, guests can sample fresh caught seafood as well as a wide range of enticing Sri Lankan dishes indoors or al fresco. Should you wish to learn more about Sri Lanka’s wide array of fruits, vegetables and spices, you can accompany the chef to the local market.

Things to do around Amanwella include a visit to a nearby turtle conservation project, a cultural village excursion where guests can try crafting their own terracotta pottery, surfing and snorkelling. From December to April, cruises can be organised to view the annual blue whale migration along Sri Lanka’s coast. Of course, you can also tour a quintessential Ceylon tea plantation or any of Sri Lanka’s many temples, including ancient Mulgirigala, set on a soaring rock butte.
