Set beside the seasonal Sand River, this indulgent safari lodge combines contemporary luxury with centuries-old safari traditions. There are just 6 thatched guest ‘rondavels’ – circular stone chalets – at River Lodge, each with their own private plunge pools and viewing decks, where a meal can be enjoyed in seclusion.
The stylish main lodge is also under thatch, with its own expansive viewing deck and dining area, which offers an alternative venue to meals in the traditional open-air ‘boma’, which features a central fire pit and a ceiling of stars. River Lodge’s curio shop is a great place to pick up a souvenir whilst supporting local residents – 50% of sale profits are donated to a community trust.
A day at River Lodge begins with a game drive at dawn, followed by a generous breakfast. Guests can participate in a guided bush walk afterwards, with another game drive complete with sundowner cocktail before a lavish dinner. All activities take place in the prolific Western Sector of the renowned Sabi Sands Private Game Reserves, where guests are assured of exclusive wildlife encounters. For keen shutterbugs, a wide range of quality photography equipment can be hired so you don’t have to bring your own.

Flights can be arranged from Johannesburg to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, where you are met and transferred by road to River Lodge (around 2 hours).
