Mara Toto Camp

Inspired from classic expedition style travel

Hidden amidst spectacular ebony trees on the edge of the river, this lovely camp provides a welcoming spot to retire to in between game drives and at the end of an exciting day out on safari. The canvas tents are supported by huge gum-poles that create high ceilings and emit a sense of classic East African safari romance.

With just four tents accommodating a maximum of just 8 guests, the camp is one of the most intimate in the entire Greater Masai Mara Ecosystem. The light and airy tents are very spacious and feature en-suite bathrooms complete with huge brass safari showers. It is an ideal base for small groups or families travelling together. The main camp area is set under a grove of ebony trees, and houses a comfortable lounge and dining area lit by lanterns and candle light. The lanterns and simple design help to recreate the classical 19th century safari style of a by-gone era. An adventure based camp that is also big on style, Mara Toto offers the same high-standards of in-house service, guiding and design that is associated with many high-end camps and lodges across Kenya.

Activities and Safaris

Situated in the 70,000 acre Mara North Conservancy, activities at Mara Toto Camp centre on morning and afternoon game drives in open 4WD vehicles. Keen and passionate safari-goers can also enjoy full-day game viewing. The camp staff can organise a picnic breakfast (and lunch too) so guests can roam the wide-open plains to their hearts content. Kenya FAQ

A morning hot air balloon ride has become an increasingly popular activity in Africa – and for good reason. It offers a unique way of viewing the undulating African landscapes and variety of wildlife below. Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the very best places to do this. The vast open plains are perfect for seeing huge herds of wildebeest, giraffe and various antelope species. Sitting out on the savannah enjoy a champagne breakfast after your flight just tops off the experience.

It is a daunting time for the wildebeest when they must cross one of the many crocodile-infested rivers that criss-cross the Masai Mara. Witnessing hundreds (sometimes thousands) of wildebeest crossing a river at one time is regarded by many as their ultimate Kenyan safari highlight. River crossings are never guaranteed, the best chance of seeing them is when the annual wildebeest migration is in the Masai Mara (July-October).
